5 Ways Migraines Ruin Lives

Migraine headaches are a serious condition that many people have to deal with. They can be debilitating and hard to get rid of once they strike, but fortunately there are treatments that work well for most people. In this blog post, we will explore 5 reasons migraine headaches ruin lives and how you can prevent them from happening in the first place!

1. You never know when a migraine is going to strike.

A migraine can strike at any time, for any length of time. This is one reason why it’s so difficult to prevent them from happening. Some migraine sufferers have what’s called an aura before the migraine, but many have no warning at all. It could be in the middle of a business presentation, at a family dinner, or on your much deserved vacation.

2. You miss work and other obligations because of the migraine.

When a migraine strikes, you have to deal with the pain and any symptoms that come with it. This can last for hours or days, which may mean missing work or running important errands. You also miss out on important parts of your life like family dinners and other social obligations. Missing these fun gatherings is oftentimes more painful than the migraine itself, being stuck at home alone while you know your friends are having a good time.

3. Sick and tired of taking heavy duty medications?

Many people have tried a variety of heavy duty medications to help get rid of their migraines, but it’s not always effective or even safe. You may find yourself feeling nauseous, dizzy, and even depressed. It can be difficult to get off these medications since they are often used for long periods of time.

While there is no permanent cure for migraine headaches, it’s possible to prevent them from happening in the first place! We’ll explore this momentarily.

4. Being knocked out of the picture for hours or days due to migraines?

The pain from a migraine can be so intense and debilitating that you may find yourself unable to move, think straight, or do anything. This means missing out on important events in your life – whether it’s an anniversary with the love of your life, a birthday party for one of your kids, or just enjoying time at home with friends.

5. Having to see your child in pain without being able to help.

To me, the most concerning trend with migraines is how many more children are being diagnosed. “Children and teens can experience tension-type or migraine headaches. Among school-age children ages 5 to 17 in the U.S., 20 percent (10.3 million) are prone to headache. Approximately 15 % of these kids experience tension-type headaches and 5% are coping with migraine disease.” 1.
